Third Workshop on German Science Opportunities for the ngVLA
5–6 October 2026
Umweltforschungsstation Schneefernerhaus (UFS), Zugspitze, Germany

The next generation Very Large Array (ngVLA) is the planned next major radio interferometer of the U.S. National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO), designed to provide unprecedented sensitivity and angular resolution at centimeter and millimeter wavelengths. Operating across a wide frequency range up to 116 GHz, the ngVLA will enable transformative science in areas including planet formation, galaxy evolution, black hole physics, time-domain astronomy, and long-baseline interferometry.

Following the successful first two workshops in Bonn (2022) and Leipzig (2023), the Third Workshop on German Science Opportunities for the ngVLA will bring together members of the German and international radio astronomy community to discuss recent scientific, technological, and strategic developments related to the ngVLA.

Since the previous meeting, the ngVLA project has reached several important milestones, including major progress on the 18 m prototype antenna program and the achievement of first light and first interferometric fringes with the VLA. At the same time, new opportunities for German participation are emerging in areas ranging from science and very long-baseline interferometry to antenna technology, software and data challenges, and future contributions to high-frequency array development and operations.

The workshop will provide a forum to discuss current science opportunities, synergies with existing and future facilities, and perspectives for future German contributions within the evolving international ngVLA landscape.

The meeting will take place at the Umweltforschungsstation Schneefernerhaus on the Zugspitze.

Further information, registration details, and the preliminary program will be announced soon.
